Bookkeeping and tax for Oliver

Oliver sits at the centre of BC's wine country, and its small businesses keep a schedule set by the growing season. Dockweiler works with Oliver owners and households from our Penticton office, about a 40-minute drive up Highway 97.

Who we work with in Oliver

Oliver grows over half of BC's wine grapes, and with Osoyoos accounts for more than 60 percent. That shapes the local economy, and the bookkeeping that goes with it. We work with:

  • Wineries and vineyards, including excise, payroll for seasonal crews and inventory that spans several vintages.
  • Orchards and other farm operations.
  • Tasting rooms, restaurants, accommodation and the businesses that serve visitors.
  • Trades and contractors working across the south valley.
  • Retirees and households with pension, rental or investment income.

Local detail that matters

Farming has its own tax rules. If your main source of income is farming, CRA gives you a single instalment date of December 31 instead of quarterly payments. CRA instalment due dates. Farm businesses also often have a big gap between when costs are paid and when the harvest income arrives, so a clear record of the year matters at filing time.

Harvest wraps up in the fall, and the quiet months that follow are a good time to close the year properly, sort out GST, and plan for spring rather than rush in April.
